Nelson
Head Varsity Baseball Coach
This is Coach Nelson’s fourth year
coaching baseball at Brantley County High School with the 2011 season
being his third year as the head varsity coach.
The Heron baseball program has made the playoffs both years Nelson has
been the head coach. He also serves as the head softball coach which has won 50 games
in the last 3 years including the school record for wins in the
fast pitch softball program at 20 in the 2008 season. In
high school, Nelson played JV baseball for Brunswick High School his 8th
grade year and lettered all four years on varsity where he earned
All Region, All State, and 3rd Team All American honors from
the U.S. Navy at Shortstop and was a state finalist in the Wendy's
Heisman Trophy as a senior. He was awarded the state Gold Glove Award as
a sophomore at 3rd Base.
He lettered in Cross Country three years in high school as well.
Afterwards, he obtained an A.S. in Teacher Education from Coastal
Georgia, B.A. in History (minor in coaching) from
Georgia
Southern, M.Ed. in Foundations of Education from Troy
State University, and is currently working on his Ed.D. from
Georgia
Southern in Curriculum Studies. He
is married to the beautiful Shelly Geiger Nelson. |
