Coach Landon Nelson
Head Varsity Baseball Coach

This is Coach Nelson’s fourth year coaching baseball at Brantley County High School with the 2011 season being his third year as the head varsity coach. The Heron baseball program has made the playoffs both years Nelson has been the head coach. He also serves as the head softball coach which has won 50 games in the last 3 years including the school record for wins in the fast pitch softball program at 20 in the 2008 season. In high school, Nelson played JV baseball for Brunswick High School his 8^th grade year and lettered all four years on varsity where he earned All Region, All State, and 3^rd Team All American honors from the U.S. Navy at Shortstop and was a state finalist in the Wendy's Heisman Trophy as a senior. He was awarded the state Gold Glove Award as a sophomore at 3^rd Base. He lettered in Cross Country three years in high school as well. Afterwards, he obtained an A.S. in Teacher Education from Coastal Georgia, B.A. in History (minor in coaching) from Georgia Southern, M.Ed. in Foundations of Education from Troy State University, and is currently working on his Ed.D. from Georgia Southern in Curriculum Studies. He is married to the beautiful Shelly Geiger Nelson.

Coach Wade Peterson
Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach

Coach Peterson is a 1998 graduate of Rockmart High School from Rockmart, GA. While there he played baseball and football. After graduating from Rockmart High, Coach Peterson attended Jacksonville State University in Alabama and received his Bachelor of Science in Education in Health and Physical Education in 2006 and then his Master of Science in Education in Physical Education and Sports Management in 2009. Coach Peterson began his coaching career at Brantley County in 2006 when he was a part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Herons to the State Playoffs and Sweet 16 in football for the first time in school history. He also coached varsity baseball. In 2007, he helped with the football, baseball, and basketball program at Atkinson County High School. Then in 2008, he came back and has coached baseball and football at Brantley County High School making the state playoffs in baseball the last two seasons in a row.
